A boy was one day sitting on the steps of a door. He had a stick in one hand and in the other hand a large piece of bread and butter, which somebody had kindly give him. While he was eating it and singing a song happily, he saw a poor little dog quietly sleeping not far from him. He called out to it, “Come here, poor dog!”

A moneylender’s greedy condition《威尼斯商人》

The Merchant of Venice is a play written by British author William Shakespeare. In the play a young man named Bassanio falls in love with a girl named Portia. He needs money to marry her, but he has no money. So he turns to his friend Antonio for help. But Antonio doesn’t have enough money, either. He plans to borrow some money from a moneylender (放债者) named Shylock. Shylock, who is heartless and greedy (贪婪的), agrees to lend the money, but only on one condition. What condition is it? “Shylock!” yelled Antonio. “Are you going to lend us the money or not? Answer me!”

Shylock answered him slowly. “Do you remember all of those times that you insulted (侮辱) me in a loud voice that everyone could hear? You once spat (吐口水) on me and called me a dog. And now you want to borrow money from me, a dog!”

The campus convenience store (校园小卖部)is a place where many students enjoy a snack and a chat. However, it may become a thing of the past.
