Teaching Plan

Kelly the Rescue Dog

Teaching aims:

1)The students will be able to understand the story and read

the story fluently and emotionally;;

2)The students will be able to retell the story and improve

their writing skills;

3)The students will be able to understand the meaning of

rescuing a life and improve their awareness of helping each other.

Time arrangement: 40 minutes

Teaching procedure:

Step 1 lead in(3minutes)

Discuss the different ways that dogs have been trained to help us. And then ask: what do you know about rescue dogs?

Step2 Retell (15minutes)

Divide the students into 4 groups and ask them to retell

the story according to the questions.

Chapter1

1) what can Tariq see or hear when the earthquake happened?

2) What did he do then and what happened to him?

3) When Tariq came to himself, what did he find?

4) Who is Kelly and who Simon? Where are they from?

5) What did Simon take after he heard the news?

Chapter 2

1)what was the first thing they noticed when they arrived?

2)What were they asked to do?

3)Before Kelly began to work, what did Simon do to him? Chpter 3

1)what was the magic word?

2)How did Kelly search for the person? What would Kelly

do if he had found it?

Chapter 4

1)where was Omar? What happened to him?

2)What did Tariq tell his father?

3)What did Simon take sally to do then?

Step 3 reading (12 minutes)

Ask the students to find out the following sentences:

1)describing earthquake

2)describe how Kelly worked

Then ask the students to read the sentences emotionally.

Step 4 discuss (10 minutes)

1) What skills did Kelly and her handler need to rescue

people?

2) What should we do when an earthquake happens?

Reflection

In this class, students have understood the theme of the story. They can answer my questions according to the content. The problem is that it is hard to retell the story using proper words. The students are so shy that most of them can’t read the sentences emotionally. We must practice their reading from now on.
