Chapter 1: Introduction
This chapter describes the things you need to know before you install or start to use SCATS Log.
About SCATS Log
Each SCATS Region saves events in a daily event log stored on the regional computer. Depending on your configuration, SCATS Region also sends the events to the SCATS Central Manager, so that there is a backup and a centralised record of all events. In addition to events from SCATS Regions, SCATS Central Manager stores any events generated by itself and any events from Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) applications.
Where are event logs stored?
If SCATS Central Manager is installed in the recommended location, its event logs are stored in the C:\ C:\Program Files\ Files\Scats6\ Scats6\Central Manager\ Manager\Scmsdata\ Scmsdata\Log folder on the SCATS Central Manager computer. There is one event log for each day that SCATS Central Manager has been running up to the limit specified when SCATS Central Manager was configured. The file naming convention for SCATS Central Manager event logs is:
yyyymmdd.evl
where:
yyyy is the year (4 digits) mm is the month (01 = January, 02 = February etc.) dd is the day (01 to 31)
If SCATS Region is installed in the recommended location, its event logs are stored in the C:\ C:\Program Files\ Files\Scats6\ Scats6\Region\ Region\Scatsdata\ Scatsdata\Log folder on the regional computer. There is one event log for each day that SCATS Region has been running up to the limit specified when SCATS Region was configured. The file naming convention for SCATS Region event logs is:
region_yyyymmdd.evl
where:
region is the region name yyyymmdd is the year, month and day as above

SCATS Log 6.5.2 user manual
What does SCATS Log do?
SCATS Log is an ITS application that connects to the SCATS Central Manager through the ITS port. SCATS Log asks the SCATS Central Manager to open an event log file, read it and send the data to SCATS Log. SCATS Log immediately validates the data, identifies the records, applies any filters and displays the results. All this is done incrementally, so you'll see the results as soon as a record is received that matches your filter criteria. Because SCATS Log is an ITS application, it can request event log data for nominated days from the SCATS Central Manager without needing to know where the data is stored. It also bypasses the need for the data to be in a shared folder with username/password access. Alternatively, SCATS Log can read data directly from an event log file.
What's new
The following changes have been made to SCATS Log since version 6.5.1:
New features
Open, Open Print and Save have been added to the File menu.
Changes
The Filter dialogue now allows filtering on commands from a specific user based on the user ID. The OK button is disabled if the user ID is not within the allowable range. Site comms and Other have been added to the Other events area of the Filter dialogue. PK (for Parked alarms) has been added to the Site events area of the Filter dialogue. A text record containing 'Propagating fallback' is now treated as a Fallback event. PPn! is now treated as a Locks and trims command type. This was previously treated as an Other command type. The path to SCATS Access is now retrieved from the registry entry managed by SCATS Access.
Bug fixes
SCATS Event Generator can generate an alarm that's to be shown as coming from the SCATS Central Manager. SCATS Log wasn't testing for this. Some trims and locks weren't being filtered correctly. This has now been fixed. Also, subsystem locks now need SS=n! The trailing comma has been removed from the last site in the Site(s) area of the Filter dialogue. When entering a range of sites in the Site(s) area of the Filter dialogue, SCATS Log crashed if the last number was several million. Site numbers are now limited to 64999. Details starting with an IP address were being treated as a site number. For example, the message '123.45.67.89 is offline' was being treated as an event at site 123. This has now been fixed. Corrupted event records are now shown as 'Unknown' in the Details column with the first 20 bytes of the record in hexadecimal. Text messages and operator commands are now checked to ensure that they only contain ASCII text. If they don't, the first 20 bytes are shown in hexadecimal. The test for site numbers in text messages now ignores values greater than 64999.

Chapter 2: Getting started
There are two ways to load event logs using SCATS log: Load the event log file directly. Load one or more event logs via the ITS interface. The latter is the preferred method. If you want to use this method, your SCATS system administrator must first configure the SCATS Central Manager and/or SCATS Region ITS port and register the ITS application name. The first part of this chapter describes how to configure SCATS Central Manager and SCATS Region so that SCATS Log can use the ITS interface. You can skip this part if you do not want to use the ITS interface or it has already been configured. The rest of this chapter describes how to install, configure, start, stop and uninstall SCATS Log.
Configuring SCATS Central Manager to use SCATS SCATS Log

Cascade Arranges all the minimised results windows towards the bottom of the results panel, then arranges the restored and maximised results windows so that they all overlap with the title bars clearly visible.
