25.C。mistake...for“把……误认为……”。可能他把我误认为另外一个人了。

29.D。hold out“伸出”。 draw back“往回跑,退却,缩回”;put on“把……放在……上,穿上,增加(体重、肌肉、价钱、速度等)”;hand in“交上,递交,呈送”。

31.B。let through“放行,让……通过”。他放下安全牌,让车辆通过。

32.C。由本句中in just the same way以及上文可知,他冲着这位司机边招手边微笑。

33.D。 第一段尾句“greeting each other”也有提示。

37.A。 fail to do“未能……”。

38.D。make a difference to“对……产生重大影响,很重要”。协管员原本很简单的一些动作改变了许多人的生活,段尾处的change也有提示。

39.B。他的快乐让人们一大早就有了一个好心情。cheerfulness“高兴,快乐”。

A

Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions usually cause the largest and most disastrous debris(岩屑,碎石) flows. A great many victims of the earthquake that struck Wenchuan of Sichuan Province last

May were killed not by the quake itself but by the sudden large amounts of debris that followed.

Most debris flows occur where the soil is composed mainly of sand or colluviums(崩积层). Loose soils made up of bits of sand or colluviums fall apart easily and are main material for fast-moving debris flows.

Scientists have conducted endless experiments to find out how debris flows work. They have learned that the amount and the timing of water entering the soil are crucial(决定性的). Typically, that means debris flows often occur when a long rainy period of many weeks is followed by an intense, brief heavy rain.

More often than not, however, debris flows are started by water, in the form of rain, snow, or river flow. In 1998, heavy rains from Hurricane Mitch unleashed about one million tons of mudslides, burying thousands of people in Central America.

Water flows through the soil until it hits a ham layer of bedrock or clay. There the water builds up, filling the tiny spaces between the soil and rock. That buildup reduces the natural friction(摩擦力) that keeps the rock and soil debris lying on the slope. If conditions are approaching dangerous levels, the slope will then fall down.

Despite what scientists know about the fact, debris flows are still impossible to predict at present because there are many other uncertainties affecting the stability of each slope. However, one thing is known: On hillsides where one debris flow has occurred, another will eventually follow. The next debris flow could take days, weeks, or years to happen.

41.The passage is mainly about ______.

A. when and where debris flows occur

B. the experiments that scientists conduct

C. the causes of debris flows

D. the possible ways to predict landslides

42.Debris flows usually take place ______.

A. during earthquakes and volcanic eruptions

B. after a heavy rain or an intense snowstorm

C. when there is a right amount of water entering the soil

D. when a long rainy period is followed by a heavy rain

43.The underlined word “unleashed”in the 4th paragraph most probably means “______”.

A. released

B. organized

C. provided

D. invented

44.We can infer from the text that ______.

A. water can flow through a hard layer of bedrock or clay

B. the friction can keep the rock and soil debris flowing

C. debris flows can never be predicted by scientists

D. debris flows tend to happen on the same hillsides

由文章第三段第三句中的“Typically, that means debris flows often occur when a long rainy period of many weeks is followed by an intense, brief heavy rain.”

由文章最后一段中的“On hillsides where one debris flow has occurred, another will eventually follow.”

We can achieve knowledge either actively or passively(被动地). We achieve it actively by direct experience, by testing and proving an idea, or by reasoning.

We achieve knowledge passively by being told by someone else. Most of the learning that takes place in the classroom and the kind that happens when we watch TV or read newspapers or magazines is passive. Conditioned as we are to passive learning, it’s not surprising that we depend

on it in our everyday communication with friends and co-workers.

Unfortunately, passive learning has a serious problem. It makes us tend to accept what we are told even when it is little more than hearsay and rumor(谣言).

Did you ever play the game Rumor? It begins when one person writes down a message but doesn’t show it to anyone. Then the person whispers it, word for word, to another person. That person, in turn, whispers it to still another, and so on, through all the people playing the game. The

last person writes down the message word for word as he or she hears it. Then the two written statements are compared. Typically, the original message has changed.

That’s what happens in daily life. The simple fact that people repeat a story in their own words changes the story. Then, too, most people listen imperfectly. And many enjoy adding their own creative touch to a story, trying to improve on it, stamping(打上标记)it with their own personal style. Y et those who hear it think they know.

This process is also found among scholars and authors: A statement of opinion by one writer may be re-stated as fact by another, who may in turn be quoted by yet another; and this process may continue, unless it occurs to someone to question the facts on which the original writer based his opinion or to challenge the interpretation he placed upon those facts.

45.According to the passage, passive learning may occur in ______.

A. doing a medical experiment

B. solving a math problem

C. visiting an exhibition

D. doing scientific reasoning

46.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refers to ______.

A. active learning

B. knowledge

C. communication

D. passive learning

47.The author mentions the game Rumor to show that ______.

A. a message may be changed when being passed on

B. a message should be delivered in different ways

C. people may have problems with their sense of hearing

D. people tend not to believe in what they know as rumor

48.What can we infer from the passage?

A. Active learning is less important.

B. Passive learning may not be reliable.

C. Active learning occurs more frequently.

D. Passive learning is not found among scholars.

Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.

Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of

countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses(球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.

There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. Y ou don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t

have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.

Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.

49.Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of?

A. Cycling around a lake.

B. Motor racing in the desert.

C. Playing basketball in a gym.

D. Swimming in a sports center.

50.What do we know about golf from the passage?

A. It is popular in Portugal and Spain.

B. It causes water shortages around the world.

C. It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes.

D. It needs water and electricity to keep its courses green.

51.The author uses power walking as an example mainly because ______.

A. it is an outdoor sport

B. it improves our health

C. it uses fewer resources

D. it is recommended by experts

52.The author writes the passage to ______.

A. show us the function of major sports

B. encourage us to go in for green sports

C. discuss the major influence of popular sports

D. introduce different types of environment-friendly sports

GPS or Global Positioning System is a technology for locating a person or an object in three-

dimensional space anywhere on the earth or in the surrounding orbit. GPS is a very important invention of our time on account of the many different possibilities it brings. The technology is still advancing and new applications are being developed to make full use of its potential.

The GPS system works with the help of a satellite network. Each of these satellites broadcasts a specific signal quite like a normal radio signal. These signals that carry the location data are received by a low-cost aerial(天线) which are then decoded by the GPS software.

The software is able to identify the satellite, its location in space and the time the signals take to

travel from each satellite. The software then processes the information it receives from each satellite to calculate the position of the receiver. The overall process is quite like traditional navigation(导航) methods. If you can draw lines from three predefined places on the map to where you are, you can identify your position as the intersection of these lines, within a margin of error.

The consumer range of GPS solutions starts with sophisticated car GPS systems—they can have features like voice guiding, dynamic route calculation and in-built features to load and update a map from a CD.

The handheld range includes GPS devices from companies such as Magellan and Garmin. These typically have maps stored inside and work well for outdoor use. However the handheld range does not usually have dynamic route calculation facility so the user has to find his/her route.

Another application that was launched in the market recently has GPS working in a PDA (personal digital assistant). The PDA is designed to connect with a GPS receiver. This range is generally cheap, but the PDA-based application is not very strong. There are also variants that use wireless Bluetooth connections. These can work both for personal navigation as well as inside a vehicle.

53.The passage mainly tells readers ______.

A. how GPS works and what we can use it for

B. how good GPS is and how we can use it

C. how widely GPS has been used in our life

D. how important and useful GPS is

54.We learn from the passage that we can use GPS ______.

A. anywhere on the earth

B. on or near the earth

C. only in the open space

D. only in the outer space

55.Which of the following is NOT right according to the passage?

A. GPS can help give guidance to car drivers.

B. GPS locates position 100 percent accurate.

C. GPS devices can be of very small size.

D. GPS can function in a personal digital assistant.

56.Which of the following shows the correct position of the GPS receiver?

The global energy crisis is approaching. What can we do? Here are some steps you can take.

Cooling puts the greatest stress on your summer energy bill and the power grid(电网). Just as a tune-up for your car can improve your gas mileage, a yearly tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency and comfort. Clean or replace filters monthly or as needed.

For central air conditioning systems and room air conditioners, look for the ENERGY STAR, the federal government’s symbol for energy efficiency. For central air, purchase the system with the highest possible Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER).

Use energy-efficient ceiling fans either alone or with air conditioning. Ceiling fans do a great job of circulating air. When used with air conditioning, fans allow you to raise the thermostat(恒温器) and cut costs. Ceiling fans cool people, not rooms, so before you leave, turn off the ceiling fan.

Let a programmable thermostat “remember for you”to automatically adjust the indoor climate with your daily and weekend patterns to reduce cooling bills by up to 10 percent. Y ou can come home to a comfortable house without wasting energy and creating pollution all day while you are at work.

Try to make your home airtight enough to increase your comfort, make your home quieter and cleaner and reduce your cooling costs up to 20 percent.

Cut your air conditioning load, and reduce pollution by planting leafy trees around your home and fixing reflective bricks on your roof.

Close blinds or shades on south-and west-facing windows during the day, or fix shading equipment to avoid heat build-up.

Turn off everything not in use: lights, TVs, computers. And use fluorescent bulbs(荧光灯), which provide bright, warm light while using at least two-thirds less energy, producing 70 percent less heat and lasting up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs(白炽灯).

Drive the car that gets better gas mileage whenever possible if you own more than one vehicle. If you drive 12,500 miles a year, switching 10 percent of your trips from a car that gets 20 miles per gallon to one that gets 30 mpg will save you more than £65 per year.

Carpool. The average U.S. commuter(乘车上班族) could save about £260 a year by sharing

cars twice a week with two other people in a car that gets 20.1 mpg—assuming the three passengers share the cost of gas.

57.According to the passage, the thermostat is used to ______.

A. make rooms quieter

B. control room temperature

C. turn off the air conditioner

D. reduce room air pollution

58.We can conclude from the passage that the author probably discourages ______.

A. planting leafy trees around your home

B. turning off the ceiling fan before you leave your house

C. keeping your south-facing windows open during the day

D. using fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs

59.According to the passage, you can save fuel by ______.

A. using energy-efficient ceiling fans

B. sharing cars with others on workdays

C. turning off everything not in use

D. reducing 10% of your car trips every year

60.This passage is mainly about ______.

A. energy-saving tips

B. fuel-saving tips

C. do-it-yourself tips

D. environment-protecting tips

从第八段“Close blinds or shades on south-and west-facing windows during the day, or fix shading equipment to avoid heat build-up.”

76.√

77.Chat→Chatting。

78.free→freely。

79.even前加and。

80.we→they。

81.that→which。

82.got→get。

83.去掉in。

84.another→other。

85.classmate→classmates。

Last Thursday, we had a class meeting to discuss where to go for our spring outing. We came up with several choices such as going boating, climbing a mountain, and going to an amusement park. Finally, we decided to go mountain climbing.

The next day, we set off early in the morning. While climbing the mountain, we enjoyed the warm sunshine and a beautiful view. However, when reached the top, we were shocked to see litter here and there, such as bottles and banana peels. Then we started to pick up the litter. Afterwards, we put the rubbish into the nearby recycling bin and non-recycling bin respectively.

We were tired but happy.
