It seems journalists are pretty interested in wine research and the same might be said for coffee.。

They analyzed data collected from more than 400,000 Americans ages 50 to 71 participating in the study,可知选项C正确,故为答案。

A study like this can never prove a cause-and-effect relationship. All it can really do is to point researchers in the right direction for further investigation.

4. 【答案】A。 Neal freedman承认说研究结果“have really been mixed”,他接着说道“There's been some evidence that coffee might increase the risk of certain diseases and there's also been maybe more recent evidence that coffee may protect against other diseases as well.”

1. "The results have really been mixed", admits Neal freedman who led the coffee study and published his findings in a medical journal recently.

The results have really been mixed", admits Neal freedman。who led the

coffee study and published his findings in a medical journal recently是定语从句修饰Neal freedman。

2. Here's what he means by "modestly": those who drank at least two or three cups a day were about 10 percent or 15 percent less likely to die for any reason during the 13 years of the study.

Here's what he means by "modestly"。冒号后面的内容是同位语从句,对前面整个句子做解释说明,其中从句的主干是those…were about 10 perc ent or 15 percent less likely to die;who drank at least two or three cups a day是定语从句修饰those;for any reason during the 13 years of the study作状语。

1. seems like 好像

2. journalists

3. publish 发表

4. medical医学的

5. journal杂志

6. evidence

7. collect 收集

8. participate 参加

9. investigation

This kind of engaged listening is a skill that is as critical for learning a range of subjects at school and work as it is for learning to understand a foreign tongue

7. 【答案】A。 Studies of skilled language learners have identified specific listening strategies that lead to superior comprehension.

The other half, possessing the same initial skill level and taught by the same teacher, were given detailed instruction on how to listen.

They don’t allow themselves to be thrown off by confusing or unfamiliar details可知,专注听信息的人不受信息干扰。

10. 【答案】C。 根据第三段before the talking begins, they mentally review what they already know about the subjects.

1. It sounds obvious, but until recently, we didn't know much about how listening works.

2. The other half, possessing the same initial skill level and taught by the same teacher, were give detailed instruction on how to listen. The other half were give detailed instruction on how to listen。这里的half后面省略了of the students。possessing the same initial skill level and taught by the same teacher为分词结构作定语,修饰The other half。

3. Instead, they take note of what they don’t understand and make inferences about what those thing might mean, based on other clues available to them: their previous knowledge of the subject, the context of the talk, the identity of the speaker, and so on. 译文:分析:本句的主干是they take note…and make inferences…。of what they don’t understand作后置定语修饰note;about what those thing might mean作后置定语修饰inferences;based on…so on 为过去分析结构作状语,其中冒号后面的部分为clues的同位语,作进一步的解释说明。

11. 【答案】B。 根据文章第一段中“This behavior is puzzling to economists, who like to believe that people tend to act in their own self interest”,可知,泰坦尼克号上的乘客并没有像经济学家所通常认为的那样站在自私自利的立场行事,所以经济学对此感到困惑。并且,第一段末“There was no pushing”和“very, very orderly behavior”也印证了泰坦尼克号上的秩序是井然的。

12. 【答案】A。

14. 【答案】B。 根据第二段末句“These two ships were both luxury ones”可知A 项描述正确,由“they had a similar number of passengers and a similar number of survivors”可知C项和D项描述正确。

1. This behavior is puzzling to economists, who like to believe that people tend to act in their own self interest.

2. Savage has compared the behavior of the passengers on the Titanic with those on the Lusitania, another ship that also sank at about the same time.

1. puzzling

2. interest 利益

3. similarity 相似点

4. luxury

5. instinctual 本能的

6. forceful

学位英考试试题-1 Part I Reading Comprehension (30%) Directions: There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and blacken the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet. Passage 1 Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage: Archaeology, like many academic words, comes from Greek and means, more or less, “the study of old things”. So, it is really a part of the study of history. However, most historians use paper evidence, such as letters, paintings and photographs, but archaeologists (考古学家) learn from the objects left behind by the humans of long ago. Normally, these are the hard materials that don't break down or disappear very quickly—things like human bones and objects made from stone and metal. It is very unusual to find anything more than the hard evidence of history--normally, the bacteria (细菌) in the air eat away at soft materials, like bodies, clothes and things made of wood. Occasionally, things are different. In 1984, two men made an amazing discovery while working in a bog called Lindow Moss, in the north of England. A bog is a very wet area of earth, with a lot of plants growing in it. It can be like a very big and very thick vegetable soup—walk in the wrong place and you can sink and disappear forever. The men were working when one of them saw something sticking out—a human foot! Naturally, the men called the police, who then found the rest of the body. Was it a case of murder? Possibly--but it was a death nearly two thousand years old. The two men had found a body from the time of the Roman invasion of Britain. Despite being so old, this body had skin, muscles, hair and internal organs—the scientists who examined him were able to look inside the man's stomach and find the food that he had eaten for his last meal! Why was this man so well preserved? (76) It was because he was in a very watery environment, safe fi:om the bacteria that need oxygen to live. Also, the water in the bog was very acidic. The acid preserved the man's skin in the way that animal skin is preserved for leather coats and shoes. How did he die? Understandably, archaeologists and other scientists wanted to know more about the person that they called,“Lindow Man”. (77) His hands and fingernails suggested that he hadn't done heavy manual work in his life—he could have been a rich man. They found that he hadn't died by accident. The archaeologists believe that he was sacrificed to three different gods. 1. Which language does the word “archaeology”come from? A. French. B. Greek. C. Roman. D. German. 2. The word “these” in the first paragraph refers to_______. A. letters B. photographs C. paintings D. objects 3. Which of the following helped to preserve“Lindow Man”? A. Ice and Iow temperature. B. Bacteria and oxygen. C. Soil and energy. D. Acid and water. 4. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?

Often ,they strike the lower levels of glass towers after searching for food in nearby parks. Such crashes are the second-leading cause of death for migrating birds, after habitat (栖息地)loss, with an estimated number of death ranging up to a billion a year. A report published last year by the Kauffman Foundation , which finances programs to promote innovation on campuses, noted that more than 50, 000 entrepreneurship programs are offered on two-and four-year campuses—up from just 250 courses in 1985. Lesa Mitchell , a Kauffman vice president, says that the foundation is extending the reach of its academic influence , which used to be found only in business schools.
