The ability to laugh at your own mistakes and weaknesses has long been recognized as a sign of maturity(成熟).As Eleanor Roosevelt put it,“You don’t grow up until you have your first good laugh at yourself.”And yet this is one of the most difficult aspects of your sense of humor to develop. It’s easy to see the humor in someone else’s mistakes, but it’s another story when the same thing happens to us.That’s why we’ve put off working on this part of your sense of humor until you’ve already got some good humor skills in areas that have nothing to do with laughing at yourself.

Oscar Wilde once said that“Life is too important to be taken seriously.”What do you think he meant by this?

I don’t think he meant you don’t have to take your responsibilities,promises,work,etc.seriously.He didn’t mean that it’s OK to live life with no honesty.I think he meant that the quality of our life suffers when we approach everything in a serious manner. We lose the joy and spontaneity we had when we were kids when we take everything so seriously—especially when we take ourselves so seriously.

I think the key here is to take your work and your responsibility seriously, but take yourself lightly in the process. When you take yourself seriously all the time, you will lose many benefits that a playful attitude and humor can offer.

60.Why does the author quote Eleanor Roosevelt’s words in the first paragraph?

A.To support the argument that the ability to laugh at yourself is a sign of maturity.

B.To show that even great people like Eleanor Roosevelt make mistakes sometimes.

C.To inform us that laughing is really beneficial to people’s physical development.

D.To stress the important influence that great people have on us common people.

61.The underlined word spontaneity can most likely be replaced by .

A.1aziness B.activeness C.carelessness D.fairness

62.What do Oscar Wilde’s words in the second paragraph really mean according to the author?

A.There is no need to take your responsibilities seriously.

B.If you fail to keep your promise, just think nothing of it.

C.If we take everything too seriously, life will be boring.

D.If you are too honest,you’11 certainly lose the joy of life.

63.Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?

A.Learning to Laugh at Yourself B.Laughing is Good to Your Health

C.Never Take Anything Seriously D.Take a Playful Attitude to Your Work

The mountain lion is a solitary animal, keeping a wide distance between itself and the next mountain lion. It has the broadest range of any New World mammal, from Alaska to Tierra del Euego. It moves silently, secretly, after large animals: deer, elk, even moose.

Although mountain lions usually avoid people, there are about four attacks and one death per year on humans in the United States and Canada. So long as humans keep moving into mountain lion habitats, such conflicts will be a constant. But, even so , they are few; most people are more likely to be hit by lightning (and far more likely

to be hit by a bus) than to be harmed by a mountain lion.

In the spring of 2008, a mountain lion was found in a North Side neighborhood of Chicago. Regrettably, police shot and killed the mountain lion, perhaps because it was near a primary school.

The California Department of Fish and Game offers these useful tips:

?Don’t feed deer because it will attract mountain lions.

?Don’t leave s mall children or pets outside unattended.

?Bring pet food inside to avoid attracting animals that mountain lions like to eat.

?Avoid hiking or jogging alone when mountain lions are most active—at dawn, sunset and night.

?If you meet a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger

by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.

?If attacked, fight back and, when possible, call 911 immediately.

Good rules, all. But where is the 911 for mountain lions to call? The question, it seems to me, is worth considering.

68.What does the underlined word solitary probably mean?

A.Social.B.Endangered.

C.Living alone D.Running fastest.

69.Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A.Mountain lions only live in Alaska and Tierra del Fuego.

B.Mountain lions kill more people than road accidents do.

C.A mountain lion was shot by police after it killed a schoolchild.

D.Mountain lions don’t like to come out for food in broad daylight.

70.When facing a mountain lion, you should do any of the following except .

A.run as fast as you can B.shout as loudly as you can

C.wave your arms wildly D.call 9ll as soon as possible

71.What does the author really mean by the last paragraph?

A.Mountain lions are likely to call 911 for help when they are in danger.

B.The rules offered by the California Department of Fish and Game are perfect.

C.Measures should be taken to protect the mountain lions from being attacked.

D.People don’t know where to call 911 when they ale attacked by mountain lions.
