Divorce in Present-Day China

Nowadays, it is common for Chinese young people to get divorced. When we hear the news that one of our friends have gotten divorced, we may no longer show our sympathy to them. We don’t know how we become so apathetic, but we just be insured to this social phenomenon. Have you ever thought about the reasons why so many people get divorced? Or it is just a kind of fashion?

As we all know, it’s not only a fashion, the reasons are varied. First, many couples get married without knowing each other deeply. They may get married after knowing each other for less than six month for their old ages, the pressure from their parents.Second, young people’s thought about marriage have changed. They tend to have fewer responsibilities to their marriage. Some of them treat marriage as a kind of fetter to limit their freedom. So once they have got any dissatisfaction from their marriage, they will want to divorce. They do not know how to protect their marriage, and even many of them do not know how to communicate with each other. Third, maybe there have the interloper in their marriage. Young people pursue love freely, so it is not strange to have or to be the third person.

We may wonder if there have any effects brought by divorce, surely there had. We can sure that if the couple have really no love or need to live together; divorce is the best choice for them. But if they get divorce just because of misunderstanding or other little things, not only themselves but their children or relatives will hurt. Blind divorce will bring many bad effects, such as dispute of properties, the mental burdens for children and so on.

To this situation, I have my opinion about marriage. I think before young people married each other, they should have a correct knowledge about marriage and learn to how to protect their marriage. Moreover, they should understand each other well. After they get married, they should strengthen their responsibilities to marriage and communicate with each other more. As a proverb says:” marry in haste, repent at leisure.” So the most important thing is think twice before marrying, only in this way can we have less regrets after we get married.

Illegal abortionl

The central issue of our team is we should make abortion illegal.

First of all, we proclaim that we don’t talk about abortion on psychiatric（saiki'?trik）grounds here. It is a special situation which should be concerned in other ways.

Human life is sacred, a fetus is an unique individual, and it has the right to survive. But abortion is equivalent to murder, if the law admits that killing an innocent human being is wrong, abortion is wrong too.

Second, abortion does great harm to women, especially to teenage. Abortion will not only bring serious mental pain and pressure to women, but also some physiological [fizi?'l?d?ik?l] problems, such as habitual abortion、lifelong infertility and so on. This behavior will seriously affect their future life.

So, abortion should be justified illegal, everyone should learn to be responsible for life and respect life, not only for yourself but also others.

Of course, the implementation of the law needs the support of the Government. The Government should make allowance on those who cannot afford to support a child but have to, and take some measures to ensure the children’s healthy growth.

smoking

There are not many smokers about who started smoking after the age of eighteen. In fact, the majority of smokers took up the habit in their early or mid teens.

At such a young age, you don't really think about the health risks of smoking and you certainly do not realise how addictive smoking can be. As a teenager you probably think that you can try smoking a few times and then take it or leave it.

However, the reality is that it doesn't take long to become addicted to nicotine and smoking. There are several reasons as to why children or teenagers start smoking.

Peer pressure plays an important part. Many children start smoking because their friends have tried it or smoke themselves.

Some children may also begin to smoke if they have low self-esteem. Smoking may get them in with the "in crowd" and help them to make friends. If they smoke, then they will be accepted by their peers.

Some children have said that they smoke to appear older and more grown up, especially if they are surrounded by young adults who smoke.

So how to solve the problem? If you ask me, I’ll say that th e government should make some laws to forbid teenagers from smoking. They can make a law that anyone who want to buy cigarettes should show the casher their ID cards to prove that they are adults.and anyone who sell cigarettes to teenagers should be harsh punished. With the help of our government and laws,I believe that there will be fewer and fewer teenagers start smoking in the future.

I don’t like smoking at all, even though I am a man, and used to be a heavy smoker. Smoking is bad for our health. Many people have died of smoking. According to a report, many diseases, including lung cancer, are resulted from smoking cigarettes. Nowadays, a lot of teenagers start smoking. They don’t know the harms smoking may do to them. The plastic rubbish found on beaches near urban areas tends to originate from use on land, such as packaging material used to wrap around other goods. On remote rural beaches the rubbish tends to have come from ships, such as fishing equipment used in the fishing industry.

White pollution has two main hazards:

"Visual pollution" and "potentially hazardous".

This plastic can affect marine wildlife in two important ways: by entangling creatures, and by being eaten.

Turtles:Turtles are particularly badly affected by plastic pollution, and all seven of the world's turtle species are already either endangered or threatened for a number of reasons. Turtles get entangled in fishing nets, and many sea turtles have been found dead with plastic bags in their stomachs. It is believed they mistake these floating semi-transparent bags for jellyfish and eat them. The turtles die from choking or from being unable to eat. One dead turtle found off Hawaii in the Pacific was found to have more than 1000 pieces of plastic in its stomach including part of a comb, a toy truck wheel and nylon rope.

Marine Mammals: There is great concern about the effect of plastic rubbish on marine mammals in particular, because many of these creatures are already under threat for a variety of other reasons e.g. whale populations have been decimated by uncontrolled hunting. A recent US report concluded that 100 000 marine mammals die each year in the world's oceans by eating or becoming entangled in plastic rubbish, and the position is worsening.When a marine mammal such as a Cape fur seal gets caught up in a large piece of plastic, it may simply drown, or become exhausted and die of starvation due to the greater effort needed to swim, or the plastic may kill slowly over a period of months or years as it bites into the animal causing wounds, loss of blood and/or severing of limbs.

"Ghost Nets": A large number of marine creatures become trapped and killed in "ghost nets". These are pieces of gill nets which have been lost by fishing vessels. Other pieces of fishing equipment such as lobster pots may also keep trapping creatures.

The problem of plastic pollution is serious and requires further urgent study.

Immediate action is also required such as :

(2) Higher fees on plastic bags

(3)Reward customers using the old shopping bags

(4)Use of alternative biodegradable products

(5)Resource conversion of waste plastics

In china ,many cities have taken measures to curb white pollution.

In September 1995, Hangzhou became the first city to stop using disposable foam boxes. Subsequently, a series of cities and provinces followed suit, taking similar action.

Since Jan. 1999, the State Economic and Trade Commission has passed a couple of policies to outlaw the manufacture, use and sale of foam boxes.

In Beijing, a group of students are propagandize "Please use less plastic bags", some students of "reducing plastic bag coalition" are playing guitar, to attract everyone's attention.

Reduction of the amount of plastic used in packaging which is usually immediately thrown away. Re-use of plastics should be encouraged.

Plastic wrapping and bags should carry a warning label stating the dangers of plastic pollution, and shoppers should be encouraged to use their own bags, or recycled paper bags.

Buy products with less Plastic packaging and tell store Personnel why you are doing so. Shoppers should use their own bags or recycled paper bags.

Support recycling schemes and promote support for one in your local area.

Practice and promote proper disposal of plastics in your home and at the beach. Always remember that litter generates litter. Never dispose of plastics in the sewage system.

At the beach dispose of plastics and other litter in the bins provided. If these facilities are inadequate, contact the local authority responsible and lodge a complaint. Take your litter back home with you if there are no receptacles on the beach. Pick up any plastic litter you may see on the beach or in rock pools in the vicinity in which you are sitting or walking. Encourage young children to do likewise.

In the street never throw plastic or other litter out of your car or drop it on the pavement or in the gutter.

Set an example to others and encourage them to help. Plastics are not themselves a problem. They are useful and popular materials which can be produced with relatively little damage to the environment. The problem is the excessive use of plastics in one-off applications together with careless disposal.
