It has been seen as a hi-tech bike-sharing boom that entrepreneurs hope will make

them rich while transforming China's traffic-jammed cities.

But, occasionally, dreams can turn less pleasant. In the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, more than 500 bicycles for hire have been found dumped in huge piles on the streets, according to reports. Pictures showed vehicles nearly three metres high, with small parts on the ground. City streets around the country have seen an explosion of the colourful bikes that users can rent on demand with a smartphone app and then park wherever they choose.

The sharing economy is taking off in China, where ride-sharing and Airbnb are increasingly commonplace. From Shanghai to Sichuan province, bike-sharing are being started in an effort to reduce traffic jam and air pollution by putting a country once known as the “Kingdom of Bicycles” back on two wheels.

Companies such as Ofo and Mobike, with their yellow and orange bikes, have been in a cut-throat battle for customers. But problems have arisen when clients have abandoned their cycles. “Some people these days just have really bad characte r,’’ a man named He,who lives near where the piles appeared, told the Southern Metropolis Daily. When they're done using (the bike) they just throw it away somewhere, because they've already paid. Residents told the paper that hikes had been piling up over the past week, either parked random by careless users or piled by local security guards trying to clear narrow residential alleys and footpaths.

Zhuang Chuangyu, a representative at Shenzhen's municipal people s congress, said the city needed to step up regulation of the bike-sharing industry in order to improve conditions and safety standards, especially since schoolchildren often used the bikes.

In 1980, almost 63% of commuters cycled to work, the Beijing Morning Post reported in 2015, citing government data. But by 2000 that number had decreased to 38% and today it stands at less than 12%. Car use, meanwhile, has rocketed. In 2010 China overtook the US to become the worlds largest car market, with 13.5 m vehicles sold in just 12 months.

C. Airbnb has been a common thing.

D. It is widespread across China.

27. What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?

A. Ofo and Mobike are yellow and orange bikes.

B. Ofo and Mobike have really bad character.

C. Ofo and Mobike cause the clients to abandon their cycles.

D. Ofo and Mobike are in competition with each other.

28. Which of the following may the author agree with?

Dogs may actually understand what their owners are trying to say, according to a new study.

Moreover, when dogs listen to someone talking, they may use brain regions that are equal to those that humans use to understand what others say, the researchers found.

In other words, the new study shows that the brain mechanisms(结构)involved in the process of understanding human speech are similar in dogs and humans. This means that the brain mechanisms involved in understanding human speech are not unique to humans.

To convey information through speech, people use both words and intonation (语调), which is the way a person's voice rises and falls to express an emotion or meaning, such as praise or disapproval. Similarly, to understand what someone is trying to say, people have to pay attention to both their words and their intonation.

In the study, the researchers wanted to see whether dogs also pay attention to both words and intonation when trying to understand what a human is trying to say to them.

To conduct the study, the researchers looked at 13 dogs. The researchers measured the dogs’ brain activity with a brain scanner while the dogs listened to recordings of their trainers speaking different combinations of words and intonations.

The researchers found that the dogs paid attention to both the words and intonation when trying to understand human speech, just as humans do when they try to understand human speech. This finding means that dogs may understand both the words and the intonation that humans use when they talk to dogs.

The brain scans also suggested that the dogs used the left parts of their brains while trying lo understand words hut used the right parts of their brains while trying to understand intonation. Similarly, humans use the left parts of their brains while trying to understand the meanings of words and the right parts of their brains while trying to understand intonation.

29. What is the best title for the passage?

A. Your Dog Understands What You’re Saying

B. A Big Challenge to Human Beings

C. Our Best Friends—Dogs

D. The Dogs in the Future

30. What do people use to convey information through speech?

A. Emotion or meaning.

B. Voice rising and falling.

C. Words and intonation.

D. Praise or disapproval.

31. What can be inferred from the passage?

A. Dogs are the cleverest animals.

B. It is generally believed that the brain mechanisms involved in understanding human speech are unique to humans.

C. With the brain mechanisms like human's, dogs can speak as human do in the near future.

D. Dogs are also good al learning languages.

My daughter went to see The Wild One recently and she commented that Marlon Brando was wearing jeans so long ago. Of course he helped set the trend, so that got me thinking about the link between films and trends in fashion. Fashion and films have gone hand in hand for long. The Wild One is a good example: it appeared in 1954, starring Brando. Dressed in a black leather motorcycle jacket, leather cap and jeans, he created a look which is still considered “cool” today. Everyone from Madonna to middle-aged men is seen wearing the classic leather motorcycle jacket.

Another strong influence on fashion trends was Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn. She made famous the simple black dress that looks perfect at either a cocktail party or just standing around an expensive department store like Tiffany's with a pastry and coffee in your hand, as Audrey Hepburn does in the film. She looks so elegant, wearing simple but beautiful dresses, big dark glasses and a string of pearls around her neck. Audrey Hepburn still infl uences women’s fashion with her “Tiffany’s look”.

In more modern times, the film star Uma Thurman created a major fashion trend when she appeared in the film Pulp Fiction, made in 1994. Her style was very simple. Her black trousers, crisp white shirt and hair style was copied by women in the world.

Influencing fashion trends can often be about timing. The movie Memoirs of a Geisha came just in time to start a trend in Japanese fashion. It started the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who wore beautiful silk kimonos(和服), and it won an Oscar for Costume Design. Many travel companies picked up on the trend and ran “geisha trips” to Japan. The film has also led to a regained interest in kimonos. It is now quite common to see young Japanese women wearing kimonos not just on traditional occasions, but at various social events. The fashion is also beginning to spread to western countries.

32. What made the author think about the relationship between movies and fashion trends?

A. The Wild One show.

B. Influence of the film Breakfast at Tiffany's.

C. Marlon Brando setting the trend.

D. His daughter's words.

33. Who will people associate Madonna wearing the leather motorcycle jacket with?

A. Marlon Brando.

B. Audrey Hepburn,

C. Uma Thurman.

D. Zhang Ziyi.

34. What is implied in the film Breakfast in Tiffany’s according to the passage?

A. One can be active by wearing black.

B. O ne can be stylish by eating at Tiffany’s.

C. One can be famous by looking perfect.

D. One can be elegant by wearing simply.

35. What does the film Memoirs of a Geisha lead to?

A. The recovery of interest in kimonos.

B. The worldwide reading of Geisha stories.

C. The popularity of the Chinese actress.

D. T he “g ei sha trips” to social events.

How to protect traditional Chinese culture?

A heated discussion was held in my class recently in order to encourage us students to protect traditional Chinese cultures.

The students hold different points of view about how to protect traditional Chinese cultures. Some suggest resisting Western holidays due to their strong influence. Some argue that we are supposed to hold some creative activities to celebrate traditional cultures so that we can have fun during Chinese festivals. Still others consider various competitions should be held from time to time, which provides more chances for the citizens to recite Chinese poems and practise calligraphy.

Personally, it is high time that we spared no effort to protect traditional Chinese cultures. Otherwise we will regret one day.
