Due attention should be given to speaking Many students pay little attention to speaking than to other respects of learning English nowadays. Actually, speaking deserves more attention than it has been given to.

There are three main reasons counting for why such phenomena could happen. First of all, the education system cares only about students’ intelligence of listening and reading comprehension, which can help students deal with ordinary examinations. When it comes to the preparation of the English test, there are many aspects except speaking. It is no wonder that students pay little attention to speaking considering the reason given above. Secondly, lack of suitable English-speaking circumstances lead to the situation. Students can’t find an appropriate place to practice their speaking, which can pick out their wrong pronunciation in time and get the correct guidance. Last but not least, Chinese students are tend to be too shy to express themselves out, which means that they would rather practice their learning or writing skills than speaking. All these factors mentioned above lead to the little attention given to speaking.

From my point of view, in order to change the situation, it’s of great necessity to reclaim the meaning of learning English

speaking. To be more specific, we need to let students know that learning speaking is not only for examination but also for the comprehensive development. What’s more, we should appeal to schools to establish more standard English corners to provide a standard circumstance for English speaking, which will also encourage students to express themselves.
