If researchers want to know what happened on a particular day, they often look at newspapers published on that day. But what would happen if newspapers were to stop publishing? Future researchers would likely turn to the Web.

The website https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html, has for years saved websites from the past. But it only does this once a day for news websites, and even less often for other websites. Twenty-nine-year-old reporter Ben Welsh decided to create a site similar to https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html,. But he wanted to archive only news websites. And, he wanted to save their homepages(主页) more often.

Mr. Welsh created https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html,. The website saves the

homepage of seventy news websites from around the world once

an hour. He says, “This plan of what I call …harvesting? is important

in today? s quickly-changing news environment, because over the

course of a day, a news story can develop quite a bit. Nothing like

https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html, has ever been done.”

Ben Welsh spent about sixty dollars a month on storage space for https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html,. He feared the cost would increase beyond what he could afford, so he asked people for help through the website Kickstarter. Thousands of Americans use the website to seek money to pay for their

projects. Two days after Ben Welsh made his request, https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html, had received promises for half of the five thousand dollars that he had asked for. Within about a week, he had gotten all of it and more. He says, “I will use the money to expand his website. Then my hope is on top of that to build some features specifically aimed at media researchers and media critics so that they'll be able to more easily access data like this to do an analysis of media coverage(报道).”

Stephanie Bluestein, a professor, believes https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html, will turn out to be a valuable resource. She says, “Now you could go back and look hour by hour and see how the headline changed”

61. Mr. Welsh created https://www.wendangku.net/doc/ff16998767.html, to ______.

A. compete with similar websites

B. record how news stories develop

“The Book That Can?t Wait” seeks to strengthen bonds between first-time writers and their readers by getting their books read quickly.

Argentinean independent publishers Eterna Cadencia are publishing an anthology of new Latin authors using special ink that disappears once it comes in contact with sun and air, completely disappearing within 2 months time after opening the book. This makes for an interesting approach to motivate book buyers to read books more promptly, giving first-time authors the attention they need to survive.

Books are very patient objects. We buy them, and then they wait for us to read them day by day, even year by year. That?s OK for books, but not for new authors. If people don?t rea d their first books, they'll never make it to a second.

That's why Eterna Cadencia, an independent publisher and book store, decide to create something different to launch their new authors into the market. The books can't wait. How's that? We developed the unique kind of ink, an ink that starts to disappear when it comes in contact with light and air. Then we printed an anthology of the best new American Latin author, using this ink, to create a new kind of book, a book that lasts only two months once you open it.

We presented "The book can't wait" for the critics and the press. The invention is a success. Hundreds of people came to the bookstore to pick up their book. We gave away the entire first edition. The very same it was released. We received thousands of requests for the book.

Those are the best results. This time we had the guarantee that our new authors were read. Then when to use the book as a platform for other different titles, because there're a lot of literatures out there that doesn't deserve to wait on the shelf. And ours won't wait at all.

Mother Nature can be fierce. Some of the greatest power she uses comes in the form of sandstorms. They can be found across the globe, and much like tornadoes, little of which is known. Sand and dust storms can be deadly with their suffocating winds full of sand. Many people lost their lives in the storms because of the bad air.

A terrible thing about sand and dust storms is that they hardly ever give any warning. Their turning can be seen only after it has formed a dust whirl(旋转). They are much worse than a thunderstorm. Sandstorms produce tornadoes called sand whirls. They take every corner they find. If you can get out of the path, do so.

Sandstorms come quickly, leaving valley-like beaches in their way that can cover an entire house. If you have to stay where you are, get ready. Close tightly all windows and doors and then cover them with plastic cloth or curtains which have to be nailed(钉) to the walls. That will help keep the small sand from your throat and lungs. Cover all the holes that lead to the outside. In fact, a basement is not the best place, as the clouds of dust will sink through the floors. Cover your entire face and eyes if possible. Towels will work in danger, as well as rolled-up shirts and jackets.

Hunker(蹲) down in an airtight area, such as boxes, containers or rooms, that is in no danger of being opened b the fierce winds. If nothing else is available, lie down on a piece of plastic cloth or something made up of an airtight material and then roll yourself up in it. The smallest crack(裂缝)on the surface of them will let in more sand and dust than your lungs can stand for any length of time and those forces of nature usually hang around for hours, covering everything.

Breathing through wet cloth, like in a fire situation, will also help once the clouds of dust are beginning to come in. The wet cloth stops the dust and provides a little bit of water in a difficult situation.

71.What does the underlined word “suffocating” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?

A.Letting out a very strange noise.

B.Frightening and dangerous.

C.Destroying everything on the way.

D.Causing difficulty in breathing.

72.From the passage we can learn that_______________.

A.people learn a lot about sandstorms

B.sandstorms can?t be predicted exactly

C.sandstorms are only found in dry areas

D.thunderstorms are more dangerous than sandstorms.

73.Which is the correct action if a sand whirl comes?

A.Getting out of its way quickly.

B.Entering a basement if you can.

C.Covering yourself with thick cloth.

D.Covering your head with a curtain.

74.What is the main reason for you to hunker down in an airtight area?

A.You can?t be blown away by the terrible dust whirl.

B.It is strong enough to stop the big wind entering.

C.It can keep your breath far away from the sand and dust.

D.You can go out more easily after being covered by the sand.

75.This article is written mainly to tell readers _______________.

A.Mother Nature can be very fierce and powerful

B.what a sandstorm is like and how dangerous it is

C.how to survive a sandstorm if you meet with one

D. a sandstorm is the most dangerous disaster

If you are feeling that life just cannot be any worse for you, it can be challenging to think positive thoughts. When we are stressed, depressed, upset, or otherwise in a negative state of mind because we think that "bad things" keep happening to us, it is important to shift those negative thoughts to something positive. _____________, we will only attract more "bad things."

It is often very hard to think positively when so many things are negative, but I can assure you that someone, somewhere is worse off than you. We can choose to think differently by beginning with the smallest of steps.

If you start with one small, positive thing and repeat it during the course of your day, you will begin to move into a more positive situation: positive thoughts, feelings, opportunities and people will start showing up in your life. With practice, you will find that over time, you will change your outlook and choose to be happy, regardless of the events around you.

Here are a few examples for you to practice. Say them out loud and with feeling!

1. Begin and end each day with a "Thank you for this wonderful, glorious day!"

2. When you see the gas prices hiking, say "I am so glad that I am blessed to have a vehicle in which to get around."

3. When you are late for work, say "I am so happy and grateful for my job as I know that many don't have one."

4. If you are having health problems, be grateful for what does work: "I really do appreciate my eyes that see, my ears that hear, my mouth that tastes, my legs that walk, my arms that lift, my hands that write, my mind that thinks, my knees that bend and my tongue that talks." The possibilities here are endless: insert what does work for you and feel good about it!

5. Write down what you're grateful for each day. In moments when you're feeling really down, read what you wrote previously. This will help uplift your spirits. If you practice this regularly, you will find that your list will get longer and longer.

The key is to move yourself into a positive thought and keep it there long enough to make it a moment of peace. The more you practice, the happier you'll be.

76. What?s the purpose of the author writing this p assage? (within 15 words)

_______________________________________________________________________

77. Are you in favor of the author?s view? Give your reasons. (within 20 words)
