At the moment, it may be difficult to imagine, but many people believe that, by the year 2100, we will live on the planet Mars. Our own planet, Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Luckily, we can start again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life could be like.

It had been a year since Susan, 34, became blind. Because of a medical misdiagnosis (误诊), she was suddenly thrown into a world of darkness, anger and disappointment. The ancient kingdom of Egypt lay along the fertile (肥沃的) valley of the Nile River in northeastern Africa. Menes and the other kings of the First Dynasty ruled during a period of Egyptian history known as the Old Kingdom. At this time, the city of Memphis, just south of the Nile Delta, served as the capital of ancient Egypt. As Egypt’s population increased, the kings ruling Memphis set about conquering（征服）neighboring lands, and as a result the realm(王国) grew wealthier. Menes’ successor, a king named Aha, invaded（入侵）Nubia, the land lying south of Egypt. If we are asked exactly what we were doing a year ago, we might have to say that we could not remember. But if we had kept a book and written in it the account（陈述）of what we did each day, we should be able to give an answer to the question.

It is the same in history. Many things have been forgotten because we do not have any written accounts of them.
