?英国人爱喝茶(tea)是世界闻名的。据说茶是由英王查理二世的王后凯瑟琳带到英国的。她出嫁时从东印度公司购买了中国红茶100公斤,把它带到英国王宫,她把喝茶当作一种宫庭乐趣。时至今日, 茶是英国最流行的饮料,将近一半的人口喜欢喝茶。人们普遍认为茶能医治百病,有的人

竟到了饭可以不吃,茶不可不喝的地步。一位英国剧作家曾经说过:"While there is tea, there is hope。"(有茶就有希望。)

?英国人喝茶比较定时,习惯于三餐两茶。每天人们工作、学习一段时间后,需要停下来休息一刻钟左右,喝杯茶,吃点东西,这段时间叫tea break(茶休),茶休一般一天两次:morning tea(上午茶)和afternoon tea(下午茶)。

?上午茶一般在十点半左右,下午茶一般在下午四、五点钟。

茶休在英国是"雷打不动"的休息时间,这在别的西方国家是没有的。

情态动词can的用法

can是情态动词,本身不表示动作,表示体力或脑力方面的能力或客观可能等。它必须与其他动词连用,本身没有人称和数格的变化。Can的否定形式为can not,cannot或can’t(省略式)。

Can you make the tea?

Yes, I can. /No, I can't.

What can you/ I do?

can的具体用法:

can是情态动词,表示“能,会,可以,被允许等”,其后接动词原形,否定形式为cannot,可缩写为can’t.

She can speak Japanese. 她会讲日语。

I can’t remember his name. 我不记得他的名字了。

Can you spell your name? 你会拼写你的名字吗?

新概念英语四册课堂笔记Lesson43:Our Developing World Faith in controlled nuclear fission is now being shown by the construction of atomic power stations. In Britain, Calder Hall on the coast of Cumberland first made its contribution to the National Electricity grid in 1957. Subsequently a chain of nuclear power stations was planned. Of necessity they are sited near the coasts or tidal water because of the need of much water for cooling and a certain discharge of possible radioactive effluent. Atomic power is associated in the public mind with the destructive force of atom bombs and partly for this reason, though it is claimed that there is no danger to be associated with atomic power stations, they are being sited away from populous centres. The present position is that the three main sources of power are coal, oil and water power. We sometimes refer to electricity ,gas or petrol as if they were the actual source of power , forgetting that electricity must be generated by the consumption of coal or oil or by the utilization of water
