如with a heart to heart( 心情沉重) 、heart and soul( 全心全意) 、heart to heart( 心心相印) 。 Strike while the iron is hot(趁热打铁);move haste, less speed ( 欲速则不达);to pass fish eyes for pearls( 鱼目混珠) ;castles in the air(空中楼阁);to fish in troubled waters(混水摸鱼);to be on thin ice(如履薄冰);to be out at elbows(捉襟见肘);One boy is a boy,two boys half a boy, three boys no boy.(一个和尚挑水吃,两个和尚抬水吃,三个和尚没水吃。)。

英语 中有许多关于船和水的习语,在汉语中没有完全相同的对应习语,如to rest on one's oars (暂时歇一 歇),to keep one's head above water (奋力图存),all at sea (不知所措)等等。 Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?/Thou art more lovely and more temperate 。 You are a lucky dog (你是一个幸运儿),Every dog has his day (凡人皆有得意日),Old dog will mot learn mew tricks (老人学不了新东西)等等。形容人"病得厉害"用sick as a dog ,"累极了"是dog-tired 。 Good helps those who help themselves (上帝帮助自助的人),也有Go to hell (下地狱去)这样的诅咒。
