第二课:我们家的男子汉

作者:王安忆没有男人的世界是不堪设想的。写谁呢?想来想去,想到了我们家的一条男子汉。

那是姐姐的孩子。他们夫妻俩回了安徽,把他留在家里。从此,我的业余时间就几乎全用来抱他。他日益地沉重,日益地不安于怀里,而要下地走一走,于是便牵着他走。等到他不用牵也能走的时候,他却珍惜起那两条腿儿,不愿多走,时常要抱。历史真是螺旋形的上升。

这是一个男孩子,这是一个男人。

他对食物的兴趣

“他吃饭很爽快”,带他的保姆这样说他。确实,他吃饭吃的很好,量很多,范围很广——什么都要吃,而且吃的极有滋味,叫人看了不由得也会嘴馋起来。当然,和所有的孩子一样,他不爱吃青菜,可是我对他说:“不吃青菜会死的。”他便吃了,吃得很多。他不愿死,似乎是深感活的乐趣的。他对所有的滋味都有兴趣,他可以耐心地等上三刻钟,为了吃一客小笼包子,他会为他喜欢吃的东西编儿歌一样的谜语。当实在不能吃了的时候,他便吃自己的大拇指,吃得十分专心,以至前边的嘴唇都有些翘了起来。当《少林寺》风靡全国时,他也学会了一套足以乱真的醉拳。耍起来,眼神都恍惚了,十分逗人。他向往着去少林寺当和尚。可是我告诉他,

当和尚不能吃荤。他说:“用肉汤拌饭可以吗?”“不可以。”“那么棒冰可以吃吗?”他小心地问,是问“棒冰”,而不是冰淇淋,甚至不是雪糕。“那山上恐怕是没有棒冰的。”我们感到非常抱歉。

他对父亲的崇拜

他和父母在一起的时候很少,和父亲在一起就更少了。假如爸爸妈妈拌嘴,他也会认真起来,站在妈妈一边攻击爸爸,阵线十分鲜明,并且会帮助妈妈向外婆求援。有一次因为他叙述的情况不属实而制造了一桩冤案,父子两人一起站在外婆面前对证,才算了结了此案。然而,假如家里有什么电器或别的设施坏了,他便说:“等我爸爸回来修。”有什么人不会做什么事,他会说:“我爸爸会的。”在他的心目中,爸爸是无所不能的。有一次,他很不乖,我教训他,他火了,说:“我叫爸爸打你。”我也火了,说:“你爸爸,你爸爸在哪儿?”他忽然低下了脑袋,小声地说;“在安徽。”他那种悲哀的声音和神情叫我久久不能忘怀,从此我再不去破坏他和他那无所不能的爸爸在一起的这种境界了。

他对独立的要求

不知从什么时候起,和他出去,他不愿让人搀他的手了。一只胖胖的手在我的手掌里,像一条倔强的活鱼一样挣扎着。有一次,我带他去买东西,他提出要让他自己买。我交给他一角钱。他握着钱走进了柜台,忽又胆怯起来。我说:“你

交上钱,我帮你说好了。”“不要,不要,我自己说。”他说。到了柜台跟前,他又嘱咐我一句:“你不要讲话奥!”营业员终于过来了,他脸色有点紧张,勇敢的开口了:“同志,买,买,买,……”他忘了他要买什么东西了。我终于忍不住了:“买一包山楂片。”他好久没说话,心不在焉地吃着山楂片,神情有点沮丧。我有点后悔起来。后来,他会自个儿拿着五个汽水瓶和一元钱到门口小店换橘子水了。他是一定要自己去的。假如有人不放心,跟在他后面,他便停下脚步不走了:“你回去,回去嘛!”我只得由他去了。他买橘子水日益熟练起来,情绪日益高涨,最终成了一种可怕的狂热。为了能尽快的拿着空瓶再去买,他便飞快而努力的喝橘子水。一个炎热的下午,我从外面回来,见他正在门口的小店买橘子水。他站在冰箱前头,露出半个脑袋。营业员只顾和几个成人做生意,看都不看他一眼。他满头大汗地、耐心的等待着。我极想走过去帮他叫一声“同志”,可最后还是忍住了。

他的眼泪

“他哭起来眼泪很多。”这是一个医生对他的评价。每当眼泪涌上来的时候,他总是一忍再忍,把那泪珠儿拦在眼眶里打转。他从不为一些无聊的小事哭,比如不给他吃某一种东西啦,没答应他某一种要求啦,碰痛了什么地方啦。他很早就开始不为打针而哭了。他尤其不为挨打哭。挨打就够委屈了,何况为挨打哭,因此,挨打时,他总是说:“不痛,

不痛。”甚至哈哈大笑起来,很响亮很长久的笑,两颗很大的泪珠便在他光华饱满的脸颊上滚落下来。

后来,他终于去另外安徽和爸爸妈妈在一起生活了。有一次,我给他写信,信上说:“你真臭啊!”这是他在上海时,我时常说他的一句话。因为他很能出汗,无论冬夏,身上总有一股酸酸的汗味儿。据姐夫来信说,他看了这句话,先是大笑,然后跑进洗手间,拿起一块毛巾捂住了脸。他用拼音字母回了我一封信,信上写:“王安忆,你真是一个好玩的大坏蛋!”这也是他在上海时,时常说我的一句话。

他面对生活挑战的沉着

当他满了两周岁的时候,我们决定把他送托儿所了。去的那天早晨,他一声不响,很振静的四下打量着。当别的孩子哭的时候,他才想起来哭。哭声嘹亮,并无伤感,似乎只为了参加一个仪式。每天早上,送他去托儿所都很容易,不想我们姐妹几个小时后那样,哭死哭活不肯去。问她喜欢托儿所吗?他说:“不喜欢。”可是他明白了自己不得不去,也就坦然的接受了这个现实,不做任何无效的挣扎。据老师说,他吃饭很好,睡觉很好,唱歌游戏都很好只不过还有点陌生。然而,他迅速的熟悉起来,开始交朋友,打架,聚众闹事。每日里去接她,都要受到老师几句抱怨。

在他四岁的那年,他的老保姆病了,回乡了,他终于要去安徽了。他是极不愿意去的。他的父母对于他,更像是老

师,严格有余,亲切不足。并且,喜还是怒,全听凭他们的情绪。走的前一天,他对外婆说:“外婆,你不要我了,把我扔出去了。”外婆几乎要动摇起来,想把他留下。从上海去合肥,只有一班火车,人很多。车门被行李和人堵满了,大人们好不容易挤上了车,留下他在月台上。他真诚的着急起来:“我怎么办呢?”我安慰他:“上不去,就不去了。”他仍然是着急,他认为自己是非走不可的了。车快开了,姐姐说:“让他从窗口爬进来吧!”
