3.3 Rewriting sentences

3.4 Turning notes into a passage

A taste test was conducted to determine student’s preferences and attitudes toward sugar-sweetened and artificially-sweetened beverages. Ten people, five male and five female students, from Science English class 1 were chosen at random to participate in the test. The materials used were thirty straws, two cups, one blindfold, and two containers of Kool-Aid, a popular drink in the United States. One container held four cups of orange Kool-Aid sweetened with one half cup of sugar. The other container held four cups of orange Kool-aid sweetened with 9 packets of Nutrasweet brand artificial sweetener.

The steps included in the test were as follows. Ten volunteer students were chosen, five male students and five female students. They were placed into two lines, one for males and the other for females. Alternately, men and women completed the taste test. To complete the test a blindfold was first fastened over the eyes of the tester so that he/she could not see. Then the two cups were filled with beverage, one with artificially-sweetened Kool-Aid and the other with sugar-sweetened Kool-Aid. The tester was then asked three questions from a survey and the answers were tabulated. Next, using a straw, the tester took a sip from each cup. Then the final two questions on the survey were asked and the answers tabulated. Finally, the remaining drink was thrown away, and the next tester came forward to repeat the process.

On the Delay of Geographical Caching Methods in Two-Tiered Heterogeneous Networks

Abstract We consider a hierarchical network that consists of mobile users, a two-tiered cellular network (namely small cellsand macro cells) and central routers, each of which follows a Poisson point process (PPP). In this scenario, small cells with limited-capacity backhaul are able to cache content under a given set of randomized caching policies and storage constraints. Moreover, we consider three different content popularity models, namely fixed content popularity, distance-dependent and load-dependent,in order to model the spatio-temporal behavior of users’ content request patterns. We derive expressions for the average delay of users assuming perfect knowledge of content popularity distributions and randomized caching policies. Although the trend of the average delay for all three content popularity models is essentially identical, our results show that the overall performance of cached-enabled heterogeneous networks can be substantially improved, especially under the load dependentcontent popularity model. Besides, Because of the limitation of research conditions, the total network delay, network cost and optimization of network parameters are not analyzed. In this work, we analyze the gains of caching in heterogeneous network deployment, and consider the average delay as a performance metric. Firstly we use passion point process (PPP) method to build the model. 宏韬东大考研网 2014东南大学英语语言文学专业考研经验 现在有点空闲时间了,可以写点经验帖出来借大家参考。回想复习,初试,复试的经历不是很清晰了。但是想要告诉后来的同学们,希望可以有帮助。 记得是2007年的六月份决定了考研究生。相对于很多人来说应该比较晚了。考研是一定要选择学校的,当时选择上外,是因为这是英语领域很强的学校了,还有一个原因是大学在北京,不是很喜欢它,所以想去上海了。另外的原因是上外不考文学和语言学,这两门是我学得不好也很头疼的科目。我最喜欢翻译。更有一个重要的原因是这个论坛让我喜欢上了上外,喜欢这里的人们,他们很热情,善良,耐心。 买书是一件麻烦的事情,因为很多的书不能直接买到,是要预定的。而且还有书是买不到的,就像张培基的第一辑《英译中国现代散文选》。所以买书用了很多时间。我想如果在大城市里应该有很大的书店或者书城,就可以买到需要的书了。我的书不是一次买齐的,而是陆陆续续买回来的。书目是从这个论坛了解到的,所以心里很感谢学姐和师哥们。初试买的书有很多,数一数大概有十几本吧,我想有很多人买的应该更多吧。 英语 《汉英翻译基础教程》杨晓荣编著中国对外翻译出版公司(1,2,5,6,7,8)买了六本,还有7,8册答案书,所以是8本。很认真的看了7,8册,没有看1,2册,简单的看了5,6册。 《大学英汉翻译教程》王治奎山东大学出版社这本书是很容易买到的。 《大学英语语法与词汇》袁晓宁主编北京外语教学与研究出版社 等一些重要的参考书 法语 《新大学法语》(1)周林飞、李志清编高等教育出版社这不是我大学学习的课本,所以还是很认真的看了一遍,觉得内容比较多,有点难。 《大学法语考研必备》(世界图书出版公司)这本书是很好的,我很认真的把每一题都做了,看了两遍。 政治 《2007考研政治理论考试参考书》这本书很好买的,好好第看一遍很重要。 《政治理论基础过关2000题》认认真真的看了一遍,但是没有记住。 《2008全国硕士研究生入学考试用书--陈先奎政治考前大串讲》这本书很厚,不详细,建议不要买了。 《形势与政策》忘记了哪里出版的,我想任意的一本内容都是差不多的,讲的内容很多,很繁琐。但还是要好好看的。 还有一本《考研复习精编》,因为这是我报考的宏韬东大考研网的辅导班出的书,对我帮了很大的忙。 这就是我买的所有的书了,不是很多。但是我从小的时候就有认真看书的习惯,记得每次考试之前会把课本从头到尾认真看一遍。所以这几本书是认真看了的。

Unit 9 referencing 1.1 Pre-reading tasks Why do we have to reference? When you reference correctly you are demonstrating that you have read widely on a topic. You are also supporting your hypothesis with comments from expert authors. This lends credibility to your own work. Also, by correctly referencing, you allow the marker or reader to follow-up your refer ences and to check the validity of your arguments for themselves.
