1 He refused to help us and I lost my temper with him. 2 They were very rude but I managed to keep my temper. 3 He isn't usually in such a good temper on a Monday morning! 4 Don't ask him for a rise now. He's in a very bad temper today. 5 She's just won a prize in the lottery, so she's in a very good mood. 6 He's just lost a lot of money, so he's in a very bad mood. 7 Let's go out. I'm in the mood for a celebration! 2. 2. a 根据课文最后一行but I love to hear it, 可以判断a. 4. c 只有选c. to 才符合习惯用法,因为be opposed 后面需要同介词to 搭配才能构成固定

Lesson 1 A puma at large Pumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously. However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged to investigate, for the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw 'a large cat' only five yards away from her. It immediately ran away when she saw it, and experts confirmed that a puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered. The search proved difficult, for the puma was often observed at one place in the morning and at another place twenty miles away in the evening. Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rabbits. Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes. Several people complained of 'cat-like noises' at night and a businessman on a fishing trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully convinced that the animal was a puma, but where had it come from? As no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country, this one must have been in the possession of a private collector and somehow managed to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturbing to think that a dangerous wild animal is still at large in the quiet countryside. Language points Pay attention: The points below are not covered by the mp3. It is better for you to listen to the mp3 first and try to take notes by yourselves. 1,a puma at large at large 1:逃遁的,没有被控制的。

Lesson 48 Did you want to tell me something? Why did the writer become very worried? Dentists always ask questions when it is impossible for you to answer. My dentist had just pulled out one of my teeth and had told me to rest for a while. I tried to say something, but my mouth was full of cotton wool. He knew I collected match boxes and asked me whether my collection was growing. He then asked me how my brother was and whether I liked my new job in London. In answer to these questions I either nodded or made strange noises. Meanwhile, my tongue was busy searching out the hole where the tooth had been. I suddenly felt very worried, but could not say anything. When the dentist at last removed the cotton wool from my mouth, I was able to tell him that he had pulled out the wrong tooth. 一、New words and expressions 生词和短语 pull 1) v. I spent a whole day pulling weeds. pull out a nail 拔出钉子 pull out a stopper 拔出塞子 have the decayed tooth pulled out请(牙医)拔掉蛀牙 pull out the wrong tooth 拔错了牙 eg. Lesson 83 After the elections大选之后 【Text】 The former Prime Minister, Mr. Wentworth Lane, was defeated in the recent elections. He is now retiring from political life and has gone abroad. My friend, Patrick, has always been a fanatical opponent of Mr. Lane's Radical Progressive Party. After the elections, Patrick went to the former Prime Minister's house. When he asked if Mr. Lane lived there, the policeman on duty told him that since his defeat, the ex-Prime Minister had gone abroad. On the following day, Patrick went to the house again. The same policeman was just walking slowly past the entrance, when Patrick asked the same question. Though a little suspicious this time, the policeman gave him the same answer. The day after, Patrick went to the house once more and asked exactly the same question. This time, the policeman lost his temper. 'I told you yesterday and the day before yesterday,' he shouted, 'Mr. Lane was defeated in the elections. He has retired from political life and gone to live abroad!" 'I know,' answered Patrick, 'but I love to hear you say it!' New words and expressions

A The word if is contained in four sentences. C 1 would not have been injured 2 had been 3 will find 4 had given 5 is forbidden 2. 1 into 2 out of 3 in 4 over 5 after 3. So it is not certain that the men will be saved a.

6. a 本句需要选一个与前一句的动词词组cause the roof to... c. do it to 和d. do it 都与cause the roof to 含义不符合,意思讲不通。b. make it to(使它)含义与cause the roof to 相同,但不符合语法,因为动词make 后面要求用不带to 的动词不定式,只有a. make it 符合题目意思也合乎语法,所以选a. a. except(除了,除…… If not 不合乎语法,应该是If not for 才对,d. unless(除非,如果不)后面只能跟从句,不合乎语法。 a. explode (爆炸,爆发);b. fall down (倒下,倒塌);c. fall over (从…… Make it possible for sb. to do sth. 其他3个选择都不能用于这个结构. a. able 常用于be able to do sth. 本领的”,是指人有能力 d. probable(可能发生的,很可能的)不适合这种结构。

新概念英语第二册课后题答案详解:Lesson19 新概念英语第二册课后习题 Lesson 19 1. a 根据课文第5-6行苏珊和售票处姑娘的对话:‘I’m sorry, we’ve sold out,’ the girl said. ‘What a pity!’ Susan exclaimed, 只有a. they had all been sold 与课文内容相符,而其他3个选择都与课文实际内容不符,所以选a. 2. d 根据课文最后一行‘I might as well have them,’ I said sadly(我还是买下为好,我垂头丧气地说。) 只有d. wasn’t too pleased to get tickets for next Wednesday’s performance 最能 反映作者当时的心情,而其他3个选择都与课文实际内容不符,所以 选d. 3. c 前一句The play may begin at any moment(剧马上就要开演了) 是对将要发生的事情的推测,只有c. hasn’t begun yet (它还没开 演呢)是合乎逻辑的,也与前一句的内容相符合。而其他3个选择 a. has begun(已经开演了)不符合逻辑;b. won’t begin for a long time(好长一段时间后才开演)与课文意思不符;d. begun a long time ago(很久以前就开演了)更不符合题目意思和时态。 You must give me; b. You have got to give me 与 d. You may give me

The expensive shops in a famous arcade near Piccadilly were just opening. At this time of the morning, the arcade was almost empty. Mr Taylor, the owner of a jewellery shop was admiring a new window display. Two of his assistants had been working busily since 8 o'clock and had only just finished. Diamond necklaces and rings had been beautifully arranged on a background of black velvet. After gazing at the display for several minutes, Mr Taylor went back into his shop. The silence was suddenly broken when a large car, with its headlights on and its horn blaring, roared down the arcade. It came to a stop outside the jeweler's. One man stayed at the wheel while two others with black stockings over their faces jumped out and smashed the window of the shop with iron bars. While this was going on, Mr Taylor was upstairs. He and his staff began throwing furniture out of the window. Chairs and tables went flying into the arcade. One of the thieves was struck by a heavy statue, but he was too busy helping himself to diamonds to notice any pain. The raid was all over in three minutes, for the men scrambled back into the car and it moved off at a fantastic speed. Just as it was leaving, Mr Taylor rushed out and ran after it throwing ashtrays and vases, but it was impossible to stop the thieves. They had got away with thousands of pounds worth of diamonds. Language points (Attention:The following points are may not covered by the video. It is better for you to watch the video or listen to the MP3 first and try to take notes on your own. Then you may check here to get more details. ) 1, The expensive shops in a famous arcade near Piccadilly were just opening. in a famous arcade near Piccadilly介词短语修饰shops e.g. The shoe shop in my neighborhood was just opening. 2, After gazing at the display for several minutes, Mr. Taylor went back into his shop. after gazing...=after he gazed...

Lesson 88 Trapped in a mine Six men have been trapped in a mine for seventeen hours. If they are not brought to the surface soon they may lose their lives. However, rescue operations are proving difficult. If explosives are used, vibrations will cause the roof of the mine to collapse. Rescue workers are therefore drilling a hole on the north side of the mine. They intend to bring the men up in a special capsule. If there had not been a hard layer of rock beneath the soil, they would have completed the job in a few hours. As it is, they have been drilling for sixteen hours and they still have a long way to go. Meanwhile, a microphone, which was lowered into the mine two hours ago, has enabled the men to keep in touch with their closest relatives. Though they are running out of food and drink, the men are cheerful and confident that they will get out soon. They have been told that rescue operations are progressing smoothly. If they knew how difficult it was to drill through the hard rock, they would lose heart. 1、Six men have been trapped in a mine for seventeen hours. 语言点 sb. be trapped in somewhere某人被困在某地 2、If they are not brought to the surface soon they may lose their lives. 3、However, rescue operations are proving difficult. 语言点 sth. be proving difficult证明某事进展困难 sth. be proving smooth证明某事进展顺利 4、If explosives are used, vibrations will cause the roof of the mine to collapse. 5、Rescue workers are therefore drilling a hole on the north side of the mine.
