Misfortune. This makes us feel shamed. Every now and then I wonder whether there is a method that can remove the devil from our hearts. In this way, the evil part of me won't feel shamed, meanwhile, the good part of me won't get happiness from others'

misfortune. After reading this novella entitled "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", I think it's better to shut down this bad idea. This novella is written by the famous Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson. It is about a London lawyer named John Gabriel Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll and the evil Edward Hyde. Dr. Henry Jekyll was a scientist who was always considered as a serious, hard-working doctor. Behind this character, however, he was an active, fun-loving young man-abouttown. He had spent most of his life trying to remove the devil from his heart which was not fitting for a man of his stature. After much thought, he finally decided

to create a drug that could give each side of his character it's own separate face and body. Then, he bravely drank the drug and successfully transformed himself into the smaller, younger, cruel, remorseless, evil Edward Hyde.

Dr. Jekyll enjoyed his secret very much--but not for ever after. As time went by, Mr. Hyde grew in power. After taking the drug repetitively, Dr. Jekyll no longer needed to use the drug to relief his devil.Eventually, Mr. Hyde grew so strong that Dr. Jekyll had to rely on the drug to remain himself.He first injured a child in street, then beat Sir Danvers to death for no reason. Realizing he would soon become Hyde forever, Dr. Jekyll left behind a confession and commit suicide. Generally speaking, every man has two sides to his character. Just like Dr. Jekyll was a serious, hard-working doctor which concealed a irresponsible man who pleasured around underneath. Dr. Jekyll had noticed it quiet well, but he should have known that a normal people could not be two people live uncomfortably together in the same body.

It sounds more like "dual personalities". Feeling complacent about his creation, Dr. Jekyll didn't notice that he was trapped. Before the experiment, Dr. Jekyll was just a double-dealer. And after it, he became a person with dual personalities. Each personality wanted to control the body. Unfortunately, good didn't prevail over evil. Dr. Jekyll grew weak while Mr. Hyde grew powerful. Actually, the two sides of a person have well defined power and responsibility, mutual coordination and restraint. They know the appropriate time and situation to behave themselves. You can be serious at work with a character likes Dr. Jekyll and have your private life as crazy as you want.

This is nothing to be ashamed of, but Dr. Jekyll didn't realize it at that time. During the one-month internship, I have noticed

that there are a great numbers of teachers wear a double face. They treat students strictly, meanwhile, they are quite friendly with their collogues and parents of students. This makes their life much easier. Everyone plays different roles in different situations. We needn't to shame about it. The double-dealers can always gain advantage from both sides and live well. When Dr. Jekyll took the drug and devided into two person, this tragedy is waiting to happen. The two person are quite simply. Dr. Jekyll shared no effort to do good and Mr. Hyde committed all manner of evil.

Through the death of Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, the author tried to expound his point: If you can't rein in your devil, you would be punished at last. In the unknown corner of people's deepest heart, good coexists with evil. In the story of deers and wolves, people simply thought that deers could live better without wolves.

As a matter of fact, deers could not live without wolves. They maintained an appropriate balance in the forest. But for the chasing of wolves, deers couldn't be strong and healthy. Similarly, when separated, the good side of Dr. Jekyll became weaker and weaker. Instead, the evil side of him became stronger and stronger without the restraint of the good side. But the evil side, Mr. Hyde couldn't live without Dr. Jekyll, because they shared a body. So when Dr. Jekyll committed suicide, Mr. Hyde dead,too. It is too late for Dr. Jekyll to realize that having two characters is nothing to be ashamed of. But I learned a lot from this novella. There is a "Jekyll" and a "Hyde"

Dr Jekyll has discovered the ultimate drug. A chemical that can turn him into something else. Suddenly, he can unleash his deepest cruelties in the guise of the sinister Hyde. Transforming himself at will, he roams the streets of fog-bound London as his monstrous alter-ego. It seems he is master of his fate. It seems he is in complete control. But soon he discovers that his double life comes at a hideous price. With the incessant conversion, Dr Jekyll finds himself losing his own prime of life over the hand of Mr Hyde. He begins to overcommit the therapy to help him hold the fate and it only makes him weaker coram the other face in his heart. To defeat his last despair, the proud doctor ends up this disaster in a raging flame. The work is known for its vivid portrayal of the psychopathology of a split personality; in mainstream culture the very phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" has come to signify wild or polar behaviour. First time reading this book gave me a hard time understanding what was happening in the book. There were lots of things happened and it was not that easy to see the relevance between each other as the author had been trying hard to leave only ambiguous trails. However, this feeling of tasting the desire of discovery binds me to the book. As the story going further, the feeling of freashness slowly faded away, however another thing make me wonder -- as to a human live with the fierce conflict of both good and evil sides, what would be his end. To be exact, what would he do in the continuing story and what would he become in the end of this tragedy. And for once, is this split fo humanity a representation of the nature of human-being, a special case that created by literature or somehing that warns us to look under our shields. For centuries, people are dedicating on erasing the bad side of any form in this world. Henry Jekyll is obviously a successful example in the human society. He is smart, handsome, merciful and well-educated. He is nearly prefection. Though it's said that every prefection has its blemish, this time, it is not the case. When Dr.Jekyll drunk his potion first time and became Mr.Hyde, there were enough time to stop the transforming and get himself under control by using the antidote. And he didn't do anything to stop for he wanted to taste a different power, even if the power is tought to be evil in the human knowledge, to fill a gap in his prefect life. Comparing to the brilliant Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde is ugly, cruel and original wild. The dark Hyde is more like uncivilized human while Jekyll represent the civilized people.
