Prompt: People benefit more from traveling in their own country than traveling to foreign countries.

A weighty travel bag on the back, a cap on head and sun cream all over the exposed skin, one is on a road to something novel and tempting. Many people argue that traveling in their own country grants them insight into their own culture and brings more pleasure than traveling in foreign cities. However, such statement is hardly tenable through meticulous thinking.

When staying abroad, people can experience a different culture which surely has complements to their home culture. Frank Gehry, at once an American designer and a giant in architecture, benefits a lot from his time in Greece. In Greek temples, he was entranced by the streamlined shape of fish patterns carved on the temple walls. What he saw was not just the soft lines and ancient patterns, but a calming image bearing our common ancestors' search for inner peace, which, coincidentally, is lack in the noisy modern days and the rushing US traffic. Baptized and inspired by the Greek fish, Frank materialized his interpretation of the ancient dweller--he designed the Fish Sculpture and Fish Lamp in Barcelona. The birth of the amazing architectural designs is stemmed from Frank's journey to his foreign country. Had he stayed in the competitive America all the day, the architect wouldn't have explored such profound a motif or delved into such a deep level of human psyche.

Learning about a foreign culture not only broadens people's mind, but also deepens people's understanding and introspect of their own. In the first twelve years, I had been "normal' among the crowd speaking the same language. Thanks to my journey to Australia, I was blessed with a glimpse of Australian life and the difference between. In my own country, craven forebodes terrible future prospect, but Australians takes it as a gospel sender. Why? The Australian climate is suitable for cravens so they regenerate rapidly and almost every wall witnesses their daily life. If my hometown was a nest for cravens, by no means would cravens become an ominous symbol, for who is willing to believe a quotidian animal as a bad omen so as to wish bad luck to local people every day?

All in all, traveling in a different country generates more perspectives and benefits than in our mother land.

Prompt: work 3days/week for shorter hours VS work 5days/week for longer hours?

Such scene that a computer bag in one hand and a key card in the other, a man rushes to his office through a noisy crowd is common almost everywhere. Many people believe that working three days a week for longer hours is worth promoting for the two extra free days. However, I argue that working five days a week for shorter hours helps people finish their task more efficiently.

Many jobs require continuous devotion which can only be attained if the workers keep being in the working mode for most of the days in a week. The statement can be tested in my internship in a research center. When I first joined in the nano-research center, I went to the lab three times a week---Tuesday to Thursday. The work in the lab demands wholehearted concentration, but the Friday-to-Monday rest days seem to spoil my working consistency. Once I placed a petri dish fridge in the analgesic lab room and forgot it after four days' rest. Thus, I spent more time looking for the precious petri dish than performing experiment. The four blank days is more a curse than a gospel to my laboratory work which values all-time discreet and good memory.

Besides my personal experience, Frank Gehry, a giant in architecture, will agree my perspective. As the saying goes, "All work and no play keeps Jack a dull boy", if work stuffed most of a 24-hour day, no one will not feel exhausting and suffocating. As a result, Frank performs his designing project only on ten a.m. to four p.m. through out work days. Even if he doesn't work for long hours in one day, his working efficiency is elevated by occasion naps between hours, which grant him several inspirations and a clear mind after waking up. The short-hour working mode, apparently, not only maintains the luminous architect's health, but also perfects his mental products.

All in all, it is more effective and enjoyable to work five days a week for shorter hours.

机经Prompt: Teachers were more appreciated and valued by the society in the past than they are now?

The debate about whether teachers’social status has risen has been fueled. Many people believe that the technology advance emphasize the role of professional knowledge, thus elevating teachers’importance. However, the modern societal development actually impairs the respect many teachers receive.

As molders of the next generation, most teachers are devoting their entire life to education. However, mobile phones, computers and other high-tech devices have invaded into classrooms ranging from middle school to graduate school. A considerable number of students, especially teenagers, are lured by the novel and captivating devices so that classroom becomes their paradise to enjoy music, watch movies and even chat in groups on the Internet. My classmate, Tommy, is a compelling example. During a math class, when everybody was supposed to follow the teacher, take down notes and comprehend all the points, Tommy, with a laptop on his desk, was actually playing video games while pretending to be taking notes. Such indifference to the knowledge our math instructor was passing is flaunting defiance to the teacher. Had the teacher known what Tommy was truly doing, she would have wept heavily.

Apart from the interference of the side effect of technology, people’s desire to create also hinders the increasing appreciation for teachers. As the society requires inventions in all walks of life, the train-like education path—primary school to university—is marginalized by numerous students who are fascinated with DIY car making or are ambitious to crack out a road in business. For instance, my uncle, after narrowly passed his high school graduation exam, set about opening chain stores in my hometown. Even if he failed to receive college education and sometimes mocked the spoon-feeding formal education and over-strict teachers, he still achieved his distinction by owning the most prevalent chain store—Family mart—in the city. The confidence that without the assistance of teachers, one can still fulfill his value diminishes the role teachers are playing.

In conclusion, teachers’ status is waning due to the booming technology and people’s greater expectations to create.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minute to write a short essay on the topic of students selecting their lectures. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given bellow: 1. Free admission to museums Part I Writing Free Admission to Museums(满分版) Nowadays, an increasing number of museums are admission-free to visitors home and abroad. The hidden reason behind this is not hard to analyze as there’s a growing awareness for the authorities regarding the urgency of popularization of culture, knowledge and history with every average person in our society. Only with free access to this live ‘database’, can most people fully enjoy what museums could offer to them. However, free admission to museums might lead to some social problems as well. The most obvious problem is that it might give museums a very heavy economic burden which directly impedes the sustainable development of these organizations. As a result, our government has to work out other ways to collect funds from different channels, which might be difficult to operate or control. On the other hand, free admission attracts too many visitors, some of which might not be well-purposed and do some conscious or unconscious damage to the valuable treasures which used to be well-preserved in the museums. As a university student, I am in favor of the free-admission conduct. Yet it is proposed that some measures should be taken to solve the potential problems caused by it. For example, museums can make some regulations to guide the behavior of visitors or set some ‘closed’ days for museums for regular maintenance. Only in this way can free-admission to museums become a long-lasting phenomenon and have sustainable
