Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

In the past decades, a growing number of people have been rushing into big cities in pursuit of better chances for jobs and higher qualities of life, thus caused a tremendous development of urbanization. A prevalent view is it that bigger city equals better life, yet I can hardly make myself to be an advocator for the big-city life.

In the very first place, I am not a person to bear a fast-paced life. Everything in the big city seems to have been programmed to rush, cars and people, even the innocent dogs. What is extremely weird is that no one can stop or just slow down in spite of the fact that they are eager to do so. Of course it’s not God’s business. Instead, it is the high-level consumption as well as working pressure that push people so much. Ironically, these two aspects are also usually recognized as the main features of high quality life.

On the contrary, however, everything works in an opposite way in a small town. Peace and harmony will replace rush and pressure. People are satisfied with the foods and clothes which are far from superb and classy as those in the developed cities. Simply, life is enjoyable if one chooses to do so.

Furthermore, both the seriously polluted air and contaminated water in the big city drive me far away, which can severely destroy one’s physical fitness in a long run. In the smaller town, on the contrary, natural environment has been comparatively less polluted and sure to be a better habitat for human beings. Besides, insufferable noise or light pollution hardly exists in the small town while being a non-ignorable health killer in the big city.

Consequently, I will definitely choose to live peacefully in a smaller town rather than rush and be tortured both mentally and physically in a big city. However if someone is desperately eager to seek challenges and accomplishments, I may well recommend him to go to the big cities with no hesitation.

Which is more important, book knowledge or experience?

It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?

Experience and book theory are commonly considered as the twin towers when it comes to acquiring knowledge. Essentially, book theory comes up from experience which has been scientifically and systematically organized, and these theories, which may provide useful instructions for practice, will in turn contribute to a further experience-gaining process. And before we draw the conclusion that which is more significant, it is better to first look at the merits and demerits on both sides.

One may recognize the importance of book knowledge at once when referring to the current educational system------in the fundamental schools, kids are taught how to read books, and when entering a higher-level school, they simply read more. Admittedly, by learning from books, we can acquire knowledge in a systematical and effective way, which also leads to better grasp and deeper

understanding of things we learn. The more important thing occurs to me is that book-reading is definitely a convenient and efficient way which is widely available to the public for learning when compared with experience-gaining. Just as the old saying goes, one sees further when standing upon the shoulders of the past giants (as well as the contemporary elites). It is quite terrible to imagine how much a man should have gone through to simply figure out the microstructure of hydrogen molecule by himself, which however can be easily picked out from almost any chemistry textbook with little expense. A single thought in someone’s mind is, more often than not, far less shining than group wisdom, which is always collected in a book.

Despite many obvious advantages of book-learning, it is not without its problems. As a complement to book-learning, experience–learning exceeds in some ways. Special experience we went through is so impressive that what was learned from it will remain lively in mind for quite a long period. Furthermore, books only teach us abstract theories difficult to be applied to use, while personal experience brings us more pragmatic skills we can hardly learn from a book, which may also promote us to more comprehensive and thorough understanding of those profound while dreary theory. By the way, merely learning through a detailed manual of swimming skills helps little if one decides to learn to swim without even jumping into the water.

From what we have discussed above, we can not simply determine which weighs more, book-reading or experience-gaining, they are actually complementary as our left hand and right hand. More often than not, we need to use both book and experience as source simultaneously to get what we want to know.

The best way to improve the quality of education is to increase teachers’ salaries.

I tend to show a favorable attitude toward the opinion that high salary makes qualified education. Although it may seem, at least for those who hold the most sacred belief that teaching is not to be put together with money, rather profane to think so, after some careful and detailed examination, however, I wonder if it’s so na?ve for those people to hold such a repelling attitude toward the significance of money.

Admittedly, teaching is widely recognized as one of the most lofty occupations one can think of, and teacher the most influential factor in the process of teaching. For me, the selfless and venerable image will appear in my mind at the mention of the teacher. They are angels in the class, yet they are no more than ordinary mortal beings for the most of their time. How pleasant is it for a teacher to embrace those adorable smiling faces, and who will not be ready to love those kids with all their hearts? However, when realities crush together, things surly don’t go as expected. All of us, more often than not, are desperately toiled even tortured by our multiple characters, none of which allows escaping. Taking a woman as an example: you are at the same time the daughter of your parents, the wife for your husband, the mother for a child and most of all, the indispensable support for your family, which demanding money as well as love. Consequently, only high salaries can effectively relieve a teacher’s burden, so that more attention from the teacher can be paid to the students, and more effort will be made to enhance the quality of education.

Furthermore, high salary is not only the liberation and relief for the burdened teacher, but also definitely an attraction for those competent potential teachers. No one can ignore the truth

that nowadays money has becoming the most deciding consideration for those most competitive choosing their job. Thus by refreshing the blood of teaching with a group of more competent faculty, the quality of education will be surly promoted.

Besides all these discussed above, there are still several non-ignorable aspects remained to be demonstrated in order to make it more convincing. Anyway, improving the salary for the teacher is the most powerful way that I can think up to improve the quality of the current education.

5. The advantages and disadvantages of a new factory near your community. I I live in a primarily agricultural community, and most of the population lives hand to mouth.Parents keep children home from school to work in the fields. If there is a flood or drought, people starve.A new factory would mean regular monthly salaries as well as protection against natural disasters or a sudden drop in the price of our main agricultural product, say, corn. Regular salaries would allow families the confidence to make investments in their future. The local would be able to plan their finances accurately and free themselves from debt. This in turn would encourage entrepreneurship and further develop the local economy.People coudd begin to open shops, restaurants dormitories, and entertainment facilities to serve the factory workers with their savings.Profits from these small enterprises would further enrich the local community and turn our relatively poor farmland into a truly profitable development zone.Perhaps more parents could then afford to send all of their shildren to high school and maybe even college. There would certainly be negetive effects as well.If the area becomes prosperous, immigrants from poorer regions will come here looking for work.Because of their relative poverty they will work harder fo less money than the locals and drive wages down. There might be more immigrants than

GOOD 29 When you are assigned an important presentation for work or school, you prefer to work on it right away so that you can work on it a little bit every day, or wait until you have a good idea about the presentation Though novel ideas can help better assignments, I prefer to work on the presentation as soon as I am assigned it. First, the presentation cannot be done just by creativity, but by proper arrangement. A job plan, manageable, precise and rational, is not only the bed rock of completing but also the guarantee of time-saving. For instance, preparing the material for the topic, researching some knowledge in the textbooks and discussing the task with the other students in group are the things that you can do even when you do not have any inspiration. So redistributing your plan can avoid wasting your time waiting. Second, good idea is always late for your deadline, a regret that can be eliminated by right-away action. The more time you waste on planning and considering your presentation, the less time you will have to revise and complete your assignment. Take my brother Jim for an example. He is a freshman in university and quite into the first presentation in the opening of semester. Spending the last 4 days engaging in assembling the ideas, he, with barely nothing innovative, has no time typing a practicing so that he needs to stay up late the last night to catch up in time. As a result, he can not hand in the presentation when the de adline comes and he is “booed” by audiences. Last but not the least, instant preparation is the embryo of creative ideas, which can not be born without practical exercises. What’s more, only by preparing the work bit by bit can you have high motivation to finish the task because you do not need to be hurry. If you had been in a rush, you would have reduced your impetus to a standard of “just finishing”. All in all, all the evidence confirms undoubted conclusion that when people are assigned an important presentation for work or school, we should choose to work on it right away in order to work on it a little bit every day.

Asking others’ advice instead of getting everything done on one’s own promotes democracy and communication too. In terms of democracy, it is necessary to give others rights and chances to speak since the problem may concern them in different ways, and their saying in turn reflects our respect toward freedom of speech as well as their wisdom. In terms of communication, idea exchange sometimes focuses more than solutions, and hereby better mutual understanding about perspectives, principles, praticalities and personalities of each other. Admittely turning to others for help and suggestion by no means refers to absolute and irresponsible dependence. Consideration upon different thoughts and ideas broadens our mind, enlarges our vision, furthers understanding, enhances more effective and efficient brainstorm, and stresses mutual respect in groups and communities, which undoubtedly gives rise to better, if not the best solutions. As is paraphrasedfrom John F Kenedy, brainstormed, there is little we cannot do while divided, there is little we can do. 托福写作辅导:托福考试满分作文欣赏(2) Case of Benjinin Franklin, gathering great minds under one roof and then establishing a most world-renown libray. The government should offer internet access to all of citizens at no cost. 1.Easier attaching to information 2.More convenient for citizens to communicate 3.Decrease burden for poor people Never do topics concerning internet fail to fascinate us under the ever-increasing development of internet nowadays in the modern society. A lot of people believe that internet is to citizens what water is to fish. From my perspective, I support that citizens accessing to internet should be free based on the following reasons. It is obvious that we are now in the new era of global information, so accessing the internet could be really important to us. If the government proposes that the citizens could use the internet for free, we will concerning about the cost no more so that we can check a lot of information posted online which means we are able to attach to information. Or else, citizens will have to choose cheaper but much slower ways to search for information such as going to the library or asking other people. For instance, I have homework to do every day and the teacher usually puts the materials I may need onto schoology—an online application that can store information. So when sometimes when I am outside home, I cannot use it because it will create cost, in this situation I feel it is necessary for the government to let us using the internet for free.

Although a vast majority of people agree with this notion, opinions on how to achieve one's ambitious dreams or realistic goals are diverse. As a broadly-disseminated idea goes that the other 8 hours of free time determine one's success, an increasing number of young people are pondering a problem of how to maximize their "free" time—the 8 hours in the day when they are not studying, working or sleeping. Reading is a process of procuring knowledge and the ways of reading vary for students between reading on their own and reading as told by their teachers. As for me, it will be more beneficial to read books in line with students’wishes. For one thing, students should read what they are curious about and can find interests in, which can find wide application among college students in particular. In order to hone one’s talents and crafts with specific purpose, college students will find the more practical books to read to strengthen their competence for their future competing with other rivals in the job market. T ake Steve Jobs as an example. After attending the college just for a few months, he couldn’t figure out how the college life would help him in the future except for imposing his working family enormous financial pressure. Then, he decided to drop out so he could stop taking the required classes and reading the assigned reading materials that did not interest him and began dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.
