I have been a long time Supermart shopper and hope to continue for many years. Sometimes, though, the stresses in your life can actually come from your peers. They may pressure you into doing something youre uncomfortable with, such as shoplifting, doing drugs or drinking, or taking dangerous risks when driving a car.

The pressure to conform(随潮流)can be powerful and hard to resist. A person might feel pressure to do something just because others are doing it. Peer pressure can influence a person to do something that is relatively harmless--- or something that has more serious consequences.

People may feel pressure to conform, so they fit in or are accepted, or so they dont feel awkward or uncomfortable. When people are unsure of what to do in a social situation, they naturally look to others for cues(暗示)about what is and isnt acceptable.

The people who are most easily influenced will follow someone elses lead first. Then others may go along, too --- so it can be easy to think, “It must be OK. Everyone else is doing it. They must know what theyre doing.” Before you know it, many people are going along with the crowd --- perhaps on something they might not otherwise do.

Responding to peer pressure is part of human nature --- but some people are more likely to give in, and others are better able to resist and stand their ground.

Its not always easy to resist negative peer pressure. But when you do, it is easy to feel good about it afterwards. And you may even be a positive influence on your peers who feel the same way --- often it just takes one person to speak out or take a different action to change a situation.

I feel it enormous responsibility, as a mother of two little girls, to lead you down a path that is relatively healthy when it comes to beauty and

In a lot of womens eyes Ive probably already failed in that respect due to the amount of pink princess Barbie (芭比娃娃) mess cluttering up (堆满) Veras room. I look at old pictures of my mother and wonder why Ive never been able to be as skinny as she was. And then I have friends who are thinner than their mothers ever were. We women go round and round incircles, holding hands and trying to be one another sometimes. Men like to think we dress and style ourselves for them, but why would we when they hardly notice? Ive never tried so hard to look good when I know Im about to meet up with a stylish girlfriend. Its she who will notice my slimmed-down waist or the thinnest, little bracelet on my arm.

And I have no doubt that the two of you, Veronica and Juliette, will endlessly compare yourselves to each other. You will wonder why one of you got longer legs or shinier hair. The thing Ill tell you is this: not even the prettiest of us feel settled. The girl you think looks the most perfect in the world is probably the girl who wants to change herself more than anyone else.
